40th anniversary of Haunted Mansion
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion, Disneyland is holding a special ticketed event on September 9, 2009. Though the registration process has been much more tortured than it really needs to be, it's worked out now that the husband and I and a friend of ours will all be going to the event together, so I'm pretty happy about that. I know that even with the registration hassles, we'll have a good time.
These kinds of events also involve having related merchandise available for purchase. This time around, it's actually nice that I'm not terribly interested in too many of the items. There's one item in particular, though, that has caught my attention.
Disney is allowing special orders of sneakers that bear the design of the wallpaper in the Haunted Mansion. On the one hand, it's a really cool idea. On the other hand, high-tops have never been my thing, and I think these shoes would look awful on me. So, do I buy a pair simply as a collectible item since I can't imagine ever wearing them? At least I'm not spending much money on other merchandise, so this one splurge wouldn't be that big a deal.
I wish they'd had other items using the wallpaper design, like a bowling shirt or even better, notecards. That would have been awesome.
The deadline for orders isn't for two months yet, so I've got some time to decide.
