We Go On

Even though I've only seen it twice, Illuminations at Epcot in Walt Disney World in Orlando is one of my favorite shows, partly due to the music, which I love. Music from the show is available on a CD called WDW Millenium Celebration, and there is one song in particular that stands out for me. It's a beautiful song, and the lyrics are very affecting, applicable to so many different situations. It brings me to tears when I hear it, but I also find it very uplifting because of its spirit of hope.

"We Go On"

We can see a new horizon
Built on all that we have done
And our dreams begin
Another thousand circles 'round the sun.

We go on
To the joy and through the tears
We go on
To discover new frontiers
Moving on
With the current of the years.

Someone has done their own kind of fireworks show using the music, which is ok, but I'm including the video here because it has the song itself.

Have a good day.

Oh, man. I lived in central Florida for 10 years and worked at WDW (in the resorts) for about 4.5 or so of those years. I miss the original Illuminations. By far, the best fireworks show I've ever seen. I remember there was a stretch where I saw Illuminations every night for something like two weeks straight, heading over right after my shift. Wow. Haven't thought about that in years. Thanks for sparking the memory. (For the record, don't think I've ever seen the "new" Illuminations. We'll have to check it out.)

That's cool that you worked at WDW and saw Illuminations that much! What did you do at WDW? I completely love Illuminations. If I was local to there, I'd be watching that a lot. It's the only show at WDW that I think is a match for DL's Fantasmic. And for the record, I pretty much hate WDW's Fantasmic.

I've only seen Illuminations twice - once in November 1999 on our honeymoon and once during our last trip in January 2007. I don't know the show well enough to know if anything really changed, or even if my first viewing of the show was different than when it was first done. I don't know how long Illuminations has been at WDW.

My other favorite WDW thing is no longer there - Tapestry of Nations, that we saw in 1999. Epcot is absolutely my favorite park at WDW.
